Break the Cycle FAQs
Four different tour routes to choose from. A community festival. A post-ride puppy party at Utepils Brewing. A full day of fun!
Welcome to the Break the Cycle FAQ page! Women’s Advocates is proud to host this ride in support of victim-survivors, and we want to ensure you have a smooth and enjoyable experience. While GPS details will be provided closer to the event, rest assured that our Route Leads—local high school cycling teams and volunteers—will be there to guide you along the way. Riding alongside families and community members, they highlight the power of youth and community in advocacy, because breaking the cycle takes all of us. Read on for answers to common questions about registration, routes, safety, and more!
-
Is this a race?
- This is a tour – not a race. But we will have cow bells! It’s a ride that is open to riders of all abilities.
-
Age
- Old enough to ride 5, 15, 25, or 40 miles safely on open roads and trails. You know your kids better than we do. We trust your judgment. Trailers and trailer cycles are totally fine if you’ve got itsy bitsy future advocates you want to bring along!
-
Aid/Rest Stop Locations
- We will have aid/rest stop locations. Stay tuned for more information in May 2025.
-
Is there mechanical support?
- We send tool kits and a small selection of inner tubes, cables, etc. out to each rest stop with our crew, but you are on your own between the stops.
-
What time does this thing get rolling?
- We will have staggered start times for each of the 4 tour routes. Click here to view start times.
-
Are the roads closed?
- No. You’ll need to follow all traffic laws. All tour routes start and finish at the Theodore Wirth Trailhead within the park.
-
What kind of bike do I need?
- Whatever you’ve got. The routes are paved, so a road bike is going to be the most efficient, but gravel, fat, mountain, cyclocross, hybrid, hand cycle would be fine. Ebikes are allowed as well, as long as they meet all regulations.
-
Do I need a helmet?
- You do. Please have it on when you’re riding around before and after the tour, too.
-
I’m hungry. And thirsty. What can I do about that?
- After working up an appetite, swing by Mill Valley Market at the Theodore Wirth Trailhead for some fuel!
-
FREE Community Festival
- Join us at the Theodore Wirth Trailhead from 12 PM – 2 PM for a fun-filled festival where you can cheer on friends, family, and fellow riders! Enjoy activities for all ages hosted by community partners, meet adorable therapy dogs from Canine Inspired Change, and snap a photo with our fabulous MC, the legendary Drag King Dick von Dyke. Groove to live DJ music, soak in the celebration, and best of all—no registration is needed to join the festival! Friendly pups are welcome, so if you prefer walking over cycling, feel free to bring your dog along for a walk on the beautiful routes during our event.
-
Did I see something about a Puppy Party?
-
Yes! Our community partner in the MN Pet Coalition, The Bond Between, will be suppyling a Puppy Party at Utepils for the after party from 1pm-4pm. Just a quick 1.7-mile ride or drive from Theodore Wirth Trailhead! Enjoy puppies, live music, and local vendors. You can bring your dog, but we ask that you follow Utepils Brewing’s pet policy:
-
Dogs are welcome on the patio when it’s open! Just make sure you have a buddy to keep your pup company if you need to step inside for another round.
-
-
Raise a glass for a good cause—$1 from every beer sold between 1pm-4pm will go directly to Women’s Advocates!

I have more questions – who can answer them?
- Send your question to development@wadvocates.org and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
