Class description:
Trauma Recovery / Total Resilience Yoga (TRY) [for adults]
This 45-minute session is for all levels of mobility, no experience required. Depending on what participants need, this class can be called both T.R.Y. Trauma Recovery Yoga or Total Resilience Yoga. Self-regulation techniques are at the foundation of this practice, including orientation, grounding, centering and breathing. The overall goal for participants is for this active self-regulation to become passive, as they begin to implement certain tools in their everyday lives.
This trauma-informed practice emphasizes four key themes: Experiencing the present moment (presence), exercising choice (empowerment), taking effective action (resilience), and creating internal rhythms and positive affirmations (mindfulness). The T.R.Y. method emphasizes choice for each to experience yoga at their pace to their preferred level (even if that means sitting still and breathing with the group and nothing more). You will leave this class with an overall feeling of wellbeing and take tools with you that you can use off the mat to reconnect with that feeling.
About the facilitator: Brenda Hershey is a trauma-informed humanitarian, author of Your Time to Shine: A Personal Strategic Planning Workbook, and Trauma Recovery Yoga (TRY) global ambassador and instructor.
She draws from her trauma-informed experience in her work as an international humanitarian. More recently, she managed the medical clinic in an IDP camp of Yazidis in Iraqi-Kurdistan and is currently leading a team on a livelihoods project, enhancing employment opportunities for Syrian refugees in the region.
Her life purpose is to see the light in others, enabling them to more clearly see it for themselves ~ and to show up fully and authentically, inspiring others to do the same.
